Welcome! It is so great to have you here.
I am Hannah. I am a native to Western North Carolina. You can catch me at live music events, hiking, rock climbing, backpacking, going to the lake with friends, trying not to kill my plants, snuggling with my 2 dogs, or cooking new exciting recipes.
I see our existence on this earth as an embarkment on a journey that we are all navigating for the first time. We are bound to stumble and fall, to turn around, get lost, and to take a left turn when it should’ve been a right and the map on our phone said there would be a stop sign. It’s confusing, scary, difficult, beautiful and exciting. And how did we all get on this wild road?! Well, I’m not sure, but I am sure that I walk hand in hand beside you. To take the left turns together and see where it leads. To let you know when I think it’s time to turn around. To make sure that when we are lost, we remember to pick up rocks and smell flowers and dance when the sun comes up. My favorite part about my job is being a fellow traveler in others experiences. Without judgment, and with the understanding that our paths are different, I will walk with you.
Professional Experience
I became passionate about mental health from a very young age. I began as a client myself (and continue to do that work). At East Tennessee State Univeristy I studied Psychology and Human Services. While studying at ETSU, I interned at The Emergency Family Assistance Association in Boulder, CO, to assist families deserving of stable housing by assisting with case management, and the YWCA of Nashville, assisting young girls in their development, empowerment, and promoting justice for youth without a voice. After college I worked as a wilderness guide at a mens mental health and rehabilitation program where I lived with them for 2 weeks every month, hiking, camping, and teaching them coping skills to live in sobriety. But in turn, they taught me so much more than I taught them. It was there that I recognized my desire to become a Therapist. From there, I went to Lenoir-Rhyne University to get my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. While attending graduate school I worked at a Women’s treatment program where I further understood my passion for working with individuals with disordered eating, body insecurities, and sexual trauma.
Now, as a LCMHCA, I work collaboratively with individuals who battle anxiety, depression, body image concerns, self-esteem issues, relationship issues, sex and sexuality, gender and identity issues, trauma (sexual/emotional/childhood/violence). I also work with couples or adults in relationship to find peace in their dynamics- whatever that may look like for you.
My approach is person-centered- leading with empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive-regard, grounded in trauma-informed, acceptance-based, attachment-focused approaches for all genders/identities, ages 15 and up. I utilize ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy), Logotherapy/Existentialism , EMDR( Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Health at Every Size, and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral) skills.
